1. Test your self-tanner 24-48 hours in advance on an inconspicuous body area, such as your arm. This would indicate what kind of reaction your skin will experience upon contact with the tanner.

2. Wax 24 hours or shave 12 hours before applying your self-tanner.

3. Exfoliate before you tan! This is important – it’ll prevent streaks or unevenness.

5. If you have dry areas, apply a moisturizer beforehand. Common dry areas include the feet and knees. Doing so will ensure a more consistent tan!

6. Avoid wearing tight clothing or light-colored fabrics while your tan is developing.

7. Do not get into contact with matter for at least 6-8 hours after you apply the tan. This includes showering and sweating!

8. To help the tan fade evenly, exfoliate every three days after you tan.

9. After you shower, instead of toweling off roughly, pat dry with towel so you will not accidentally rub your tan off prematurely.

Valentino may be a famous fashion designer, but his choice of skin color is absurd! He’s almost as orange as an Oompa Loompa – tip #4! It’s better to take it easy with the self-tanner at home to prevent yourself from looking like this color.
